Toppings for hot cereals

With the arrival of the new year, often come resolutions and promises we make to ourselves to lead a more healthy lifestyle.  If you, like millions of Americans, have made a pact to eat a more healthily, then the best place to start, in my opinion, is at breakfast.  My Fit to Eat story, The Hottest Cereals, in this month's Living is a guide to the healthful preparation of whole grains and toppings for a warm and delicious breakfast.  I tried to keep it interesting by using some unexpected grains such as quinoa, farro, barley, and millet; and, some of the toppings may surprise you too - like chocolate and avocado! Check it out and start your new year on the right foot!

Farro with Banans, Walnuts and Dried Cranberries; Steel-Cut Oats with Pomegranate Seeds, Pepitas, and Orange Segments

Black Quinoa with Avocado, Almonds and Honey; Millet with Pineapple, Coconut and Flaxseeds; Barley with Chocolate, Hazelnuts, and Dried Apricots
